Hello I'm Mathew Needleman. I'm a literacy coach at Brentwood Science Magnet (my former elementary school).
I'll be presenting two workshops at CUE on digital video production and podcasting..."Digital CPR: Bringing Your Reading Series to Life with Video Podcasting" and "Podcasting on a Pacing Plan: How to Plan It, Produce It, and Fit It All In." These are sessions 2 and 6.
Hi, I'm still Mathew Needleman but I now work at a different school and will be presenting another two sessions for CUE 2009...Session 2: Film School for Video Podcasters (how to make better classroom movies) and Session 4: Make Your Presentations "Pop" with Keynote. Hope to see you there!
Hi, I'm Nick Pernisco. I teach broadcasting and communications classes at Santa Monica College and California State University, Northridge.
I'll be presenting two workshops at CUE: Podcasting in the Classroom - learn to use podcasting to help increase competency, and Blogging in the Classroom - similar to the podcast session, but using blogs to help students learn better.
I run a website called Understand Media, a site about media literacy. I also blog regularly at my media blog. I hope you'll check them out, and I look forward to meeting everyone at CUE!
Joseph Thibault here. I am the Executive Director of GlobalClassroom, an education technology start up providing free Moodle classrooms and training to teachers nationwide through our network.
I'll be presenting a workshop this year about getting started with Moodle and look forward to sharing my experience and the great resources available on the web.
Hi everybody, I'm Sylvia Martinez. I'm with Generation YES - we work with schools to create project-based student technology programs and empower students through technology.
I'll be at the EdubloggerCon and am looking forward to meeting everyone!
This will be 16 years I've been coming to CUE and I meet fascinating people and learn new things every year.
Hi all,
I am the Ed Tech Curriculum Specialist for the Saugus Union School District. We are a K-6 Elementary District of about 10,000 students up by Magic Mountain.
I'll be presenting 2 sessions at this year's CUE Conference. The first is a pop-up session on Thursday at 2:00 on "Who Said Games Don't Teach?" My co-presenter, Desiree Spang has developed this great website portal with links to educational games on the Internet. Everything is standards aligned. This is a bring your own laptop session.
My second presentation is on "Giving Students a Voice with Podcasting" We use Open Source Software so the cost is minimal and the program is easy to use for both students and teachers. This is Session 6 - 9:30-10:30 on Saturday.
We are using Audacity and the LAME Encoder. We have a Student Community set up by our IT based on ELGG where our students can post their podcasts.
Here's a link to see what one 6th grade class is doing.
Actually, our IT head, Jim Klein, will also be presenting at CUE. One session on Open Source and one on Social Networking. You can check out his sessions on the session listing.
I teach 6th grade language arts and social studies and evangelize about embedding tech and reaching kids. I will be giving my first presentation at CUE on Second Life, and the experiences I've had as a result of being there. I will also be managing the Second Life Sandbox at the back of the exhibit hall so come see what it's all about! This is my fourth CUE, and I am very excited about seeing old friends and new from Twitter, K12 Online, EdubloggerCon, and GTA. Can't wait til March!
Hi, I'm Steve Katz. I teach 8th grade United States history, TV journalism, podcast journalism, web page design, and multimedia at Country Day School in Costa Rica.
I have been to CUE several times, but this is my first time as a CUE presenter. My session is "Integrating Digital Video into the Core Curriculum." I recently wrote a guide for teachers on digital video projects. I'm looking forward to learning more about using Second Life in the classroom.
Hello, I'm Zachary Earl. I teach 3rd grade at Wonderland Avenue Magnet School in Los Angeles.
As many of us are, I'm the lead tech teacher at my school, which means we wear many hats. Besides leading the charge to have consistent technology training and professional development at my school, I'm also the one putting forth all of the purchase proposals and curricular goals. Recently, I started teaching some technology workshops to our parents, as part of the PTA sponsored parent education programs. I also teach some after school classes in digital storytelling, using both photos and videos. On top of that, I'm a Mac specialist, and am starting up a side business for technical support on Macs, and more importantly, personal training on how to use your Mac to do what you really want to do. Sure the Apple stores have the Genius Bar... but that means you have to go to them... while I'll come to you (currently just the Los Angeles area, or special arrangements). :-)
I am very involved with the program WebPlay (www.webplay.org), and use Oracle's Think.com Internet environment extensively with my students. Oracle has had workshops on Think.com at CUE the last few years, and I assume you'll be able to find them there again this year, but feel free to contact me if you have any questions about either of those programs. Thanks!
Hi, I'm Mike Hogan with Flashcard Friends (www.flashcardfriends.com). It is a free web 2.0 social network solely for education. Users and teachers can create online flashcards (complete with images, text and sounds) and share them with friends and then the system generates automated tests. Here is an example of a test: http://flashcardfriends.com/test.php?deckID=8579
Our company is filled with technology experts, but we're new to education. I'd love to get feedback form the experts in this group.
