Hello, all. This is my first post, and I'm not sure if this is the appropriate venue. I thought this might be useful information for members of this forum, but please let me know if I need to remove it, or if there is a better place for such information.
I contract with a company called Computer Explorers as a technology coordinator for a private K-8 school in Los Altos. The school is eager to expand and deepen their use of technology in the classroom, and we are now in need of an additional part-time teacher for grades K-5.
Here's a basic description of the position:
+Teach weekly lessons with K-5 students in groups of 18 or fewer
+Meet with classroom teachers to integrate your technology lessons with current
content-area curriculum
+Use our award-winning curriculum and your own creativity to guide students in project-based lessons in keyboarding, word processing, database, spreadsheet, graphics, multimedia presentation, and internet use/exploration
+Coordinate with the on-site Technology Coordinator (that's me), as she supports teacher use of technology and overall program development
+Receive ongoing support and training, updating your skills as technology advances
+Be a part of a supportive, friendly, and welcoming faculty community, with an administration eager to increase integrated technology use in the classroom
+Work 20-25 hours per week, in a 10-month position, with the opportunity to expand hours as desired with after-school and summer enrichment classes
We're looking for the following qualifications:
+K-5 teaching (or student teaching) experience required; certification preferred
+Basic technology troubleshooting skills (Training and IT support are available; however, the ability to problem-solve and locate information “on the fly” is essential.)
+Experience with Mac OS, Microsoft Office, iLife, and/or iWork a plus
+Flexibility to adapt when technology doesn’t work as expected
+Outgoing personality and enthusiasm for your subject matter
+Ability to manage classes and communicate effectively with students and colleagues
If you or anyone you know are interested in this position, or would like more information, please feel free to contact me at jmparsons (at) gmail (dot) com.
Also, if anyone has any other suggestions of where to find technically capable people with that oft-undervalued skill of good teaching, I'd really appreciate it!
Jessica
