Any handouts from your presentation? I'm a high school diploma teacher in the midst of trying to make a documentary with my students. I could use any good pointers you might have. I'm sorry I missed your workshop (for sure).

I've edited the post above to include the handout from the session above. However, better than that is the fifteen minute film version of the presentation that I created for the K12 Online Conference which you can see by going here. Let me know if you have any questions.

I recently finished a documentary with elementary students, that has been turned into an under 5 minute short. Some tips:

From Mathew: Teach students about shots, and show them examples. I used footage from local tv broadcasts.
From Frank Guttler: tell students to limit shots to 30 seconds max, shorter is better.
Since mine was a news report type documentary, I had the kids write out some questions in advance.

Thank you for taking the time to make the video! It was very informative, particularly since you illustrated the concepts with video examples. I wasn't able to make your session at CUE and appreciate you extending the conference for us by providing this training.

Matt - Loved the video ... creative, practical, long enough to provide useful examples. I'll definitely use it.. I didn't see your presentation at CUE so I'm grateful you posted here!

This is a great idea. Who knows, by developing your skill through podcast you could be the next winner of the US State Department-sponsored Democracy Video Challenge. I saw this short film that won the latest challenge. It's entitled Long Live The Fearless Man by two Filipinos, both are students of the University of the Philippines. A very good film for a shoe-string budget.
