Another great tool (still in beta) is Flavors.me.

Here you can funnel all your social net/media sites into one nicely packaged page which feeds everything into it.

The Digital Arts Education Ning has been a great compliment to our DATA program at Cathedral City High School.

It has been a great platform for student interaction, interaction with local professionals, portfolio building, connecting with students past & present, as well as feeding various media from the 'outside' that I want students to be influenced by.
