I'm doing a session on social networking entitled "Safe Social Networking Using Open Source Tools" on Friday at 11:30a in the Open Source Pavilion, Exhibit Hall / Palm Springs Convention Center. As a CUE member and educator, what would you like most to see/hear/discuss in a session such as mine?

Jim, I really enjoyed your session! You had very good examples of how get the best use out of these social networks. I also attended the panel discussion which had some great discussions on our visions for teaching students about appropriate/ethical online behavior. However, this does change over night. I agree with what you said about the need to have a type of moderation involved so the "modeling" is in place for these students to see what is and is not appropriate. So the question I pose to all out there is what are some best practicing scaffolds we can use to really teach them appropriateness? When I used gaggle, the first few weeks the student would have inappropriate conversations, but they quickly learned, from the filters in place, what was ethical. I believe this process of having this censorship if you will, in place, is so significant in order to teach these students ethical online behavior. This does not only put the teachers and administrators at ease, but also the parents! Until this ethical behavior becomes a habit, students will always test to see how far they can actually stretch the system! Here are some great stats put out by the NSBA regarding social netw...
