Our school (140 teachers, 80 staff) using Google Apps for Education. Our school email is therefore using the Gmail interface, but with our domain name, and everyone in the organization has a full Google account with Google Docs, Sites, Calendar, etc…

With your interest in Education Technology, I recommend you take a look at Wiziq's virtual classroom and authorstream's power point presentation platform. Both are web based platforms, have a bunch of features and free basic service. Here’s a public class recording conducted by Nellie Deutsch on Technology Integration.
