Differentiated Curriculum – Breaking the Code

Like most buzzwords in education, “differentiated curriculum" is code for an educational reform movement. Often students, parents, and the general public have heard the code but can’t explain the concepts behind it. If they can’t explain it, how can they embrace, support and fund it?

So, in the midst of one of the largest educational reforms there is a comprehension gap between our students, their parents and us. If you had to give an elevator pitch about differentiated curriculum, how would you do it?

I ran across a great explanation in one of my favorite blogs; Paul Hamilton’s Free Resources from the Net for EVERY Learner. Its code name is Universal Design for Learning – much more user friendly than differentiated curriculum. Take a look. This might be THE resource to show at Back to School night and PTA meetings.
