This week I attended the CoSN conference. I met Valerie Chernek from Don Johnston. She shared some things her company is doing. One of the things they are doing is partnering with Bookshare.org to provide a free text reader for students.

Beginning at the start of the 2008-2009 school year, qualified students will have the opportunity to use Don Johnston's Read:Outloud Booshare.org Edition text reader (Windows Version) to access more than 36,000 books, magazines and newspapers in the Bookshare.org library.

The Read:Outloud Bookshare.org Edition text reader offers embedded reading comprehension strategies and instruction supports that align with state educational standards. The text reader software includes audio feedback, electronic highlighting and note-taking features that allow students to effectively capture ideas. A Mac version will follow in 2009.

Great Session. Your tips were a great starting point for school in looking at technology planning especially now with the budget crisis hitting our schools. I live blogged your session at; http://woodennickelz.blogspot.com/2008/03/leveraging-technologies-f...
